Top 6 Family Camping Activities

How many times have you been camping and wished there was something your kids could do other than to complain? It’s time to make camping fun again! Camping is a great family activity, but it can quickly become boring if it isn’t entertaining for kids. In this blog post, I will share with you some of all time favorite family camping activities that all of you will enjoy!

Nature scavenger hunt

Grab your kids and take them for a fun-filled nature scavenger hunt! Pack some snacks, drinks, and any other necessary items before starting the adventure. Choose an area with lots of trees, tall grasses, and plants so that they can enjoy the outdoors to its fullest. Give clues such as “What is green?” or “What grows in the dirt?”. Encourage participation by having family members yell out their answers together after each clue. This will make it more interactive, especially if you have multiple children who are old enough to participate in this activity.

Flashlight tag

Players: divide the family into two teams. Arrange a start and finish line, with each team starting on one side of the line facing their opponents. Team members will have to make it back across without being tagged by any member of the opposing team who has been assigned as “it”. If they are tagged, that person becomes “it” for their next turn.

The first player from each team receives an object (e.g., bat or flashlight) to use in order to tag other players if they are caught off guard while trying to cross the finish line. You can also just assign someone this role before play begins depending on how many people you’ve got playing.

If there’s enough light for everyone, try using flashlights and turning them off when not in use to avoid being spotted. Alternatively, if it’s dark enough for a flashlight to be seen from far away, have players walk with their right hand outstretched ahead of them. If they feel someone coming near, the goal is to “tag” the person by swinging their arm towards that player’s direction before he or she catches you.

The last team member back across the finish line becomes “it” again once all members are through. Players should stay within an easy distance of one another while avoiding obstacles (e.g., trees) and flashing lights at night, which can give away your position.

This game will help kids develop faster reflexes so that even if they get tagged during play, they can avoid being caught. The kids will be too busy chasing each other around the campsite to worry about how much they are eating or what time of day it is. It’s good team-building and teaches them that even if you’re caught, there are ways out!

Build a campfire

With a group of kids, the first thing to do is get some wood. Make sure that there are no branches with leaves or sap on them because they will not burn for very long and might smoke too much. Next, find two logs about four feet long for your base structure.

Position those logs perpendicularly in relation to each other so one end rests on top of the other (you’ll want to make sure it’s fairly level). Repeat this process until you have an enclosed space at least three logs high and wide – use smaller wooden pieces if necessary. Now take another log and cut it lengthwise into strips. These will be in use later when lighting your fire! Take several more pieces and stack them up vertically like bricks around your base logs. This is the moment of truth – it’s time to light a match and start turning those logs into firewood!

Once the fire is on – the fun starts. Roast some hot dogs or some sweet potatoes over the fire and enjoy delicious food. You can also enjoy a s’more – just make sure to toast the marshmallow over the open flame before placing it between two halves of a chocolate bar.

Go stargazing

Camping is the perfect time to go stargazing! This can be done in one of two ways. The first option is to prepare dinner and invite your family members outside for evening sky viewing through binoculars or telescopes. A second way to enjoy the stars at night is by sitting around an open fire with no lights – just let the flickering flames guide you on this journey. Can you think of a better camping activity?

Observe nature

Camping sites can be full of wild animals, so make sure to keep an eye out for them. You may see some deer, raccoons and even bears if you’re lucky! However, these animals are not only friendly but also dangerous, so just make sure you know all the safety precautions.

Find out what type of plants and trees are around you. It’s always fun to identify new species! Go on a hike or explore the woods with your family members – there is so much wonder in nature, just waiting for us to discover it together! Don’t forget to take pictures of your adventures to remember and cherish them forever.

Do storytelling

Camping is a perfect excuse to tell your kids great stories. Whether it’s about their family or something that happened to you when you were on an adventure camping trip – don’t forget the magic of storytelling!

However, be careful when it comes to scary stories. If you choose to tell them, make sure they know it’s fake and never do anything like what they heard in a scary story.

Benefits of camping as a family

Camping as a family is great for kids. It’s so important to spend quality time with them and camp gives you the perfect opportunity! Kids can explore their surroundings, make new friends, and even learn something about nature by identifying plants or animals that they find along the way.

All of these experiences are unforgettable memories because camping activities helps us take in our surroundings and enjoy life to its fullest. You can also teach your kids some survival skills like building a fire without matches which is always useful when going on hikes or just exploring the campsite area around you.

Camping allows children to play games outdoors while socializing with others – it brings out everyone’s personality and encourages creativity through exploration! Having fun activities like these planned for kids will make it easier to get them excited about camping activities.

What to bring?

  • A tent and sleeping bags for everyone to sleep in – depending on how many people are camping, you may need multiple tents or beds.
  • Cooking supplies like a pot, utensils, plates, cups, and food. Don’t forget things like spices!
  • Dry clothes that can get dirty from all the fun activities kids will be doing outdoors – it’s important to keep being active while camping, so they don’t feel bored inside their tent playing games with each other all day long.
  • Personal hygiene items, including toiletries such as soap and toothpaste.
  • Activities to do inside of the tent or outside while camping.
  • A camera for everyone – it’s always fun to capture moments and memories from a family trip!
  • Flashlights – one for each person for camping activities.
  • Food – bring a ton of snacks for kids so they don’t get hungry.
  • Bug repellent – this is essential, especially when camping in the summer or near water sources where mosquitos are plentiful.
  • A journal to document your family adventures! Bring pens (kids love writing with different colors) and some small sketching books if you want more options.

We recommend packing what is most appropriate for your family because this might vary from person to person based on age range or disability needs. For example: if your family has a child with special needs or disabilities, you might want to pack more snacks and entertainment within reach of them (think iPad, coloring books).
