Advent Calendar: 25 Christmas Activities for Kids and Families
Christmas is a time for family, friends, and fun activities! Whether you’re looking for Christmas crafts or recipes to enjoy with the whole family, we’ve got you covered. Check out our Christmas Activities Advent Calendar for kids and family members to find something new every day until Christmas Eve!
Firstly, Christmas is a time for families to come together and share their love. It doesn’t matter if you’re Jewish, Christian, Hindu, or Muslim; it is about celebrating the joy of giving and spending time with your loved ones. Moreover, family gatherings are where traditions begin – each family has its unique way of doing things! Some people have Christmas Eve rituals, while others do Christmas Day festivities on Boxing Day in Canada. Families may decorate trees that they’ve chosen from the forest, go caroling at church, exchange presents after dinner, or make Advent calendars as an activity to countdown to Christmas day!
The Advent Calendar: Activities
Day One
Make Christmas ornaments: Glue pieces of paper into a foam ball, then paint it with glue and glitter. Add ribbons for hanging. Or make your own Christmas tree by gluing the round cutouts of Christmas cards onto cardboard tubes that are three feet tall (or you can just use empty toilet paper rolls). You could also do this project in reverse – decorate a styrofoam cup with glass gems, ribbon, and maybe some gumdrops to resemble an ornament! Make sure kids know not to put anything too heavy on them because they may break easily.
Day Two
Watch a Christmas movie: “The Santa Clause,” “Elf,” and “Miracle on 34th Street.”
Day Three
Play Christmas music: Play Christmas carols and other Christmas songs while you’re wrapping gifts, baking cookies, or opening presents.
Day Four
Visit Santa Claus: Bring kids to see Santa Claus and Christmas decorations.
Day Five
Read Christmas books with the kids: Christmas books can range in topics from Christmas myths to Christmas traditions and are great for reading on the couch as a family.
Day Six
Decorate cookies together: Make or buy sugar cookie dough (not too soft) so they’re easy to work with. Decorating them provides more bonding opportunities because kids have fun while doing something special! Give everyone a different type of icing – one person might be frosting, another sprinkles or colors confetti sugar, etc., and then trade the cookies.
Day Seven
Visit an ice skating rink: Take your young kids to the local ice skating rink for some winter fun!
Day Eight
Decorate the tree: Christmas tree is a Christmas family tradition. It’s not Christmas without one!
Day Nine
Share your favorite holiday memories: Christmas can be a time of remembering the past, with all the traditions and memories.
Day Ten
Write letters to Santa: Write a letter and have your children write one too. Place them in an envelope with their name on it, address it, stamp it and drop it off at any Post location or mail center for guaranteed Christmas delivery. Make sure you write a copy to put on your Christmas tree as well!
Day Eleven
Create a holiday photo album: Christmas is a wonderful time to create photo albums, and there are several ways you can make one. You could take pictures of your family throughout the Christmas season (and year) and put them in an album. Or, if you have children, you could do a Christmas countdown calendar where they look forward to Christmas every day!
Day Twelve
Caroling: Sing Christmas carols with family members or friends.
Day Thirteen
Build a snowman: It’s Christmas time! So it’s the perfect time to build a snowman and make some Christmas memories. If you live in an area where there is no snow, you can build snowman from clay.
Day Fourteen
Snowball fight: Christmas is a time for family, friends, and snow. Snowball fights are the perfect way to get in that Christmas spirit! Just make sure you’re appropriately dressed.
Day Fifteen
Make Christmas cards: Christmas cards are a tradition that you can start with your children. There’s no need for expensive supplies. Card making is as simple as painting and adding glitter to the front of an envelope! Then you can send them to your friends, family or even strangers.
Day Sixteen
Make a Christmas-themed dinner: Christmas is the perfect time to have a themed dinner. You can cook a turkey, pudding, or even bake cookies!
Day Seventeen
Decorate gingerbread houses: The best way is probably going old school – with graham crackers, candy bars, frosting, and gumdrops.
Day Eighteen
Think of the gift ideas for family and friends: Christmas is coming, and so are presents! You should have a list of people you are going to buy Christmas presents for.
Day Nineteen
Share what Christmas means to each one of you. There is nothing better than just spending and evening with your family talking about your emotions and feelings.
Day Twenty
Making a snow globe with kids. This is one of our favorite Christmas crafts. All you need are some small ornaments, water, glitter glue (optional), and an empty jar. Fill up your ornament about halfway with water, and then sprinkle with glitter glue.
Day Twenty-One
Create a list of what you are thankful for this year: By doing so, you will be reminded of all the things in your life to be grateful for.
Day Twenty-Two
Build a fort: Take some pillows and blankets and turn your living room into a Christmas fort. Christmas is the perfect time to get everyone in on some family bonding by building it together. And of course you will be having some festive fun!
Day Twenty Three
Have a pyjamas party with snacks and board games: Christmas is a time to snuggle up together and celebrate with your favorite time of the year.
Day Twenty Four
Christmas Eve traditions for families of all faiths: We all have some specific traditions we do on Christmas Eve. This is a perfect evening to do them and spend some valuable time together.
Day Twenty-Five
Christmas gift-giving: Christmas is a time of giving. Is there anything more wonderful than seeing the delight on children’s faces as they open their Christmas presents?
So,
With such a long list, it’s hard not to find something that will be perfect for any family! From singing with your children to taking them on adventures, we hope this calendar leaves you full of ideas for how to spend time during the holiday season. Have a great time and enjoy your family bonding!
